Arkansans for Patient Access
Arkansas Medical Cannabis Amendment
The Arkansas Medical Cannabis Amendment of 2024 seeks to expand and modify the state’s existing medical marijuana program that was established by a 2016 ballot initiative. Key changes include allowing more healthcare providers like nurse practitioners and pharmacists to recommend medical cannabis, giving practitioners increased discretion over qualifying conditions, and granting patients and caregivers the right to grow up to 14 plants at home for personal use.
The proposed amendment would also extend the validity of medical cannabis cards to three years, allow out-of-state patients to access Arkansas dispensaries, provide legal protections for recommending healthcare professionals, and implement new industry regulations around packaging, advertising, and reporting requirements.
